This is the time of the year I love England the most.
From a distance… melodic twinkles of joy can be heard bursting from the top of an ice cream van and citizens swarm like bees to a honey pot in order to get their first taste of pure joy that a 99 (with or without flake) so humbly provides.
Trees are in full bloom. Grass is smelling oh so great. Freckles are saying hello in the most delicate way. Everybody is elated. This calls for a summer party.

A delightful blend of catchy pop-infused vocals, a distorted piano loop and and a beat that completely takes over your soul from this synth-driven band is what makes this track a complete success. A delightful, upbeat band described by mighty legend Huw Stephens as being ‘doused in fun’.

Efterklang (meaning ‘remembrance’ in Danish) is a three piece from Denmark signed to notable label 4AD. Here, they present to us the blissful, relaxing sounds of a song sure to get you through those romantic summer eves. Core member Casper Clausen claims he’s ‘all for getting it right’, and you know what, he isn’t wrong. Only downside to this track is that I wish it was longer!

Oh Phoenix, Phoenix, PHOENIIXXXX. After the release of their album Bankrupt!, who could deny the absolute awesomeness these French lads deliver. This track has to have a place on your summer playlist. It will make you feel like you’re the coolest kid in town as you strut down carnaby street with your shades on and headphones LOUD. The ever powerful muddle of drums will ensure your walk is on point. This track is crazy. Enjoy.

This is a family gathering you would definitely like to attend. Not only do they idolise Beyonce and have lush hair, they whack out great tracks. A song so infectious you can’t wait to dance around your garden, swimming through willow trees and skipping amongst the flower beds. It’s as if Earth, Wind and Fire met Destiny’s Child and introduced them to Fleetwood Mac. Basically, a talented trio bursting with enthusiasm.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMVULA. The opening twinkling beats massage your ears, followed by the gorgeous, shimmering vocals effortlessly blending jazz, gospel and pop which seep through Mvula’s lips and make us feel worth something. Slowly, the dreamy, soulful sounds will overcome you and you will find yourself skipping around the place with a beaming grin, seeing everyone in a perfectly positive light.
